Update for 2017

2017 has been a big year for production. We have completed work on several projects with the Center for Small Town Jewish Life (at Colby College) and we have been engaged in a state-wide screening of our documentary: “Community Conservation: Finding the Balance Between Nature and Culture”. Film trailer here:
The project, filmed over two two years throughout Maine documents the important work of several Maine Land Trusts. The film has screened in Brunswick (selling out twice at Frontier Cinema), Bath, Damariscotta, Ellsworth, Machias, Grand Lake Stream, Lewiston, Bethel, Falmouth and Kittery (at the Seacoast Environmental Festival). It has also now screened four times on Maine Public’s airwaves.

It has been hugely gratifying to be a part of telling the story of conservation in Maine, demonstrating how environmentalists have been working with a vast array of community members, some of whom (hunters, snowmobilers) traditionally have been at odds with conservation efforts. Community conservation also embraces minority communities, a wonderful story that is a changing and evolving part of Maine’s landscape.

Many thanks to the Elmina B.Sewall Foundation for providing a major grant and Maine Coast Heritage Trust which has supported this project in innumerable ways. Bangor Savings and Drummond-Woodsum provided underwriter support for the program’s broadcast.

Stay tuned for more screenings coming up in 2018! For purchase of a DVD, please write to Mark Ireland at

Final Touches

This month I am putting the finishing touches on a film I’ve shot over the past two years.  The final project will be a half-hour in length and will consist of bay scenes from all seasons.  I have enjoyed filming bald eagles, great blue herons, snapping turtles laying eggs, a “herd” of seven deer along… Continue Reading
